For the families behind
every plan.
Information for family members and informal carers who help someone access NDIS,
aged care or DVA-funded supports.
For Family Carers
The hidden workforce.
Australia's 2.65 million informal carers do the work of supporting a loved one with a disability, illness or age-related needs.
Most are not paid. Most have not chosen the role. All of them deserve support themselves.
Neta Care works alongside families. We don't replace what you do — we make it sustainable.
Where to Get Help

Carer Payment & Allowance

Respite Care
Planned breaks from caring, ranging from a few hours of in-home respite to overnight, weekend or extended residential respite.
When You'e Helping Someone Apply
Practical tips.
✔ Keep a single folder (paper or digital) with everything: assessments, reports, plans, correspondence, medication lists, contact details.
✔ Write down your loved one's daily routine, what they need help with and what they can do independently. Assessors ask in detail.
✔ Be specific about how often things happen. "Sometimes" is harder to fund than "three times a week, every week".
✔ Bring evidence: GP letters, allied health reports, hospital discharge notes, school reports for children, NDIS or My Aged Care correspondence.
✔ Don't downplay the situation on the bad days. Assessors only see a snapshot.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
What families ask us.
Most families find it simpler to have an external support professional and access carer-specific funding (Carer Payment, Carer Allowance) separately. Talk to support coordination if uncertain.
Mid-plan changes are possible through an Unscheduled Plan Reassessment with the NDIA, or a reassessment under aged care. We help families gather the evidence and submit the request.
Talk to support coordination about future-planning: what happens when the primary carer can no longer care, supported decision-making, Enduring Power of Attorney and guardianship arrangements.
For NDIS, the National Disability Advocacy Program funds independent advocates. For aged care, the Older Persons Advocacy Network (1800 700 600) provides free advocacy.
Looking After Yourself
Carer wellbeing matters.
ILooking after a loved one is rewarding and exhausting. Burnout is real. Asking for help is not failure.
Carer Gateway (1800 422 737) offers free counselling, peer support, coaching and emergency respite. Talk to your GP about your own health, not just the person you care for. Neta Care can also coordinate respite arrangements so you can take a real break.
