For children, young people
and their families.
Information for parents and carers of children and young people accessing disability and
allied health support across Queensland and Tasmania.
Early Intervention
The earlier, the better.
Early Childhood Approach (ECA) supports children under 9 with developmental delay or disability. Families approach the NDIS through an Early Childhood Partner — these are organisations contracted by the NDIA to be the first point of contact for young children.
Children under 9 do not always need an NDIS plan to receive support. The Partner may offer short-term early intervention without a plan, or may help apply for the NDIS if longer-term support is needed.

School-Age Transitions
Key transition points.
Starting school. Therapy can support readiness, social skills and any necessary handovers to school staff. Parent-teacher communication strategies matter from day one.
Primary to secondary school. New environment, new social dynamics, new academic demands. Allied health and behaviour support can ease the transition.
Post-school transition. School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES), Disability Employment Services, post-secondary education pathways, and supported independent living planning. Start the conversation at least 18 months before school leaving.
